Sometimes, an artist deserves a spotlight that goes beyond just one album. This week, I want to highlight a band that’s been around since 2013 but is blowing up right now. I’ve talked previously about how much I enjoy seeing women succeed in male-dominated spaces; this band is smashing through the glass ceiling of the heavy pop scene in ways that I haven’t seen before. So who is The Warning, and what can we expect from them?
If you haven’t heard of The Warning, they are a heavy pop/ rock band from Monterrey, Mexico, made up of three sisters. Dany, Pau, and Ale Villarreal Velez have made music together since 2013, when they were all 12,10, and 7, respectively, but they haven’t always made heavy music. In an interview, the girls said they began their musical careers with classical piano but later found their love for heavy music through the game Rock Band. When playing Rock Band, each sister chose the instrument they wanted to play, which later became the instrument they played in real life. The girls started by posting covers of songs like Metallica’s Enter Sandman, which has over 27 million views today. Eventually, their viral rock covers landed them on The Ellen Show in 2015. Ellen gave each girl $10,000 to help pay for music school. The Warning’s talent later earned them a spot on Guns N’ Roses’ 2023 tour. The Warning will begin their 2027 World Tour in February, with many dates already sold out. I expect more dates to sell out as the tour gets closer.
The Warning shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Their song EGO is currently nominated for a Latin Grammy. They are playing festivals like Louder Than Life and Sonic Temple and are set to play the halftime show for the NFL International Game in Mexico City in November. I would love to see The Warning further grow as a band and hopefully headline a music festival. I can definitely see that happening soon.
I’ve linked a few songs below to introduce you to The Warning. Let me know your favorite in the comments!
