Pierce the Veil – Petco Park 09.12.26

Anyone who knows me knows my favorite band. It was the first concert I went to. It’s the artist I’ve seen the most. I have a tattoo of this band. This is my band. Of course, I am talking about Pierce the Veil.

Pierce the Veil formed in 2006 in San Diego, California, by brothers Vic & Mike Fuentes, Tony Perry, and Jaime Preciado. Pierce the Veil has released 5 studio albums since forming, with their most recent album being released in 2023, titled “The Jaws of Life,” which had some songs go viral on TikTok, like So Far So Fake leading to almost overnight success. Pierce the Veil went from performing in venues that hold 3,00 people to selling out Petco Park in their hometown, which holds 40,000 people. I was lucky enough to be a part of not only their biggest show to date, but a sold-out show in their hometown. This show was the finale for their 16-month-long world tour.

In preparation for this historic sold-out show, Many local brands collaborated with the band to celebrate their success. Collaborations include a Pierce the Veil specialty pizza at Prince Street Pizza, a limited-edition Pierce the Veil IPA brewed by Stone Brewing, and limited-edition coffee beans and coffee cups with James Coffee Co. These collaborations got the city ready and set the mood for an incredible weekend.

Once at the venue, the vibes were great. I traveled to this concert by myself, but I did talk to people at the venue and made some friends while standing in the merch line. The venue quickly filled up while the opener, Julia Wolf, sang beautifully. Julia Wolf is best known for her song In My Room.

Finally, the venue gets dark. It’s time for Pierce the Veil to take the stage. Before Pierce the Veil came on, a mariachi quintet walked on stage in traditional black-and-white charro outfits, with skull makeup on. The mariachi played Pierce the Veil’s iconic concert intro, which is also the first track on their third studio album, Collide With the Sky. The band comes out after the mariachi, and the crowd erupts in cheers. The song choices were great for what is essentially a 20-year anniversary show, as they played songs from every album. One of my favorite parts of the show was when the band played a snippet of “She Makes Dirty Worlds Sound Pretty,” since this song isn’t on streaming platforms and is no longer on vinyl or CDs. Everyone in the crowd sang every word, even though it’s a “forgotten” song. One of my favorite songs by Pierce the Veil is Besitos, and they premiered it live at this show for the first time on this tour.

The band played a mix of angry, happy, romantic, and melancholic songs. No matter what the band played next, the crowd sang every word. The lyrics to every song resonate with fans one way or another, and that’s one reason why fans love Pierce the Veil so much. They relate to the lyrics and find comfort in how relatable they are. It was an amazing show, and it was incredible to see all these fans in one place celebrating this band’s history. I would love to know what your favorite band is in the comments below, and if you liked this post, feel free to check out my other posts!
